Ask the Colorado Attorney General to Assign an Investigator to Peggy’s Case

Because of Tim Masters’ wrongful conviction and the fallout from it, Peggy Hettrick’s case has been passed among different law enforcement agencies in Colorado. Today it sits under the purview of the Colorado Attorney General. Previously, that office had a dedicated investigator working Peggy’s case – who even convened a grand jury at one point – but that detective retired over a year ago and Peggy’s case has sat untouched ever since. This office has the power to continue investigating Peggy’s case and renew DNA testing efforts.

Join us in asking the Attorney General to re-assign an investigator to work Peggy’s case and solve it once and for all.

Letter to the Attorney General

Dear Attorney General Weiser,

It has been 38 years since Peggy Hettrick was brutally murdered, mutilated, and left in a field. Thirty-eight years without answers. Thirty-eight years without justice. Peggy deserves more. Her family deserves resolution.

Since the wrongful conviction and the fallout that followed, Peggy’s case has been shuffled among various law enforcement agencies in Colorado. Today, it sits under your jurisdiction. Your office once had a dedicated investigator actively pursuing leads, even convening a grand jury at one point. But since that detective’s retirement over a year ago, Peggy’s case has remained untouched. It cannot continue to sit idle.

You have the power to change this. You have the power to renew investigative efforts, to leverage advancing DNA technology, and to reconvene a grand jury. Justice is still possible—but only if action is taken.

Peggy was more than a victim. She was a writer, a dreamer, a woman who experienced love and loss. Her life was stolen, and for nearly four decades, the person responsible has walked free.

I urge you to assign a dedicated investigator to Peggy’s case. The true perpetrator must be held accountable, and her family should no longer be left waiting in the dark. The time for justice is now.
