This is a submission from one of our listeners named Ashley and she did give the warning the this is more of an Ashley story in that it is a little sad, but it’s also happy. And that’s the order of things.
Ashley had her pruppet soulmate, Tank, and they were incredibly close. When financial situations changed, she and her family had to move from the house they shared with Tank to a rental property that didn’t allow pets. Ashley made the incredibly difficult decision to re-home Tank to a retirement rescue where old dogs got to live out their days on a farm. Ashley kept in contact with the owners and even got to visit him.
In her contact with the new owner, she heard that there was an issue with someone locally trying to poison neighborhood dogs. In the summer of 2018, Tank became this evil person’s victim, and after 3 days in the pet hospital, he passed. Ashley was heartbroken. What would have happened if they still had their house, or if she chose someone else to re-home tank? All the “What ifs?”
It’s been three years since Tank passed, Ashley and her family have moved a few different places, including some that allowed pets. Her kids started asking about getting another dog, but Ashley just was never ready. She, like me, was known to skim through the pet finder websites, but it never felt right. Then one day, she saw Kristoff, an Aussie shepherd mix, and she KNEW he was the one.
She sent a screenshot to her husband and they lined up a time to meet Kristoff. When they met him, one of the volunteers told them a bit more of his story. He was part of a litter at the shelter that were all named after characters from Frozen, and he was actually adopted as a puppy with his brother named Olaf. Unfortunately, being adopted together wasn’t working out and the family that adopted both of them decided to keep Olaf, and surrender Kristoff back to the shelter. Ashley knew that this was THE dog for their family, and they brought him home that night.
He was immediately great with the kids and even slept in their room with them that first night. When Ashley’s husband went in to check on them later that night, Kristoff did a little bark like, “Hey, be quiet! My people puppies are sleeping!” Kristoff is so gentle, kind, and smart. He loves racing with the kids and playing with his green squeaky monkey.
Ashley also made sure to mention the Oklahoma Human Society and their amazing group of volunteers, especially the one who fostered Kristoff and took such good care of him before he joined their family.
