Timeline:
Afternoon
Mary Yoder becomes suddenly ill while working at her chiropractic office, experiencing nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
Around 6 p.m.
Mary finishes seeing her last patient and goes home, where she continues to be sick throughout the night.
Around 9 a.m.
Bill Yoder drives Mary to the hospital as her condition worsens.
Around 10 p.m.
Mary’s condition sharply declines after initially seeming stable. She falls in the bathroom and is moved to the ICU.
4:17 a.m.
Mary’s heart stops for the first time. She is revived.
Just after 10 a.m.
Mary goes into cardiac arrest again and continues to code arrest multiple times.
2:54 p.m.
Mary Yoder is pronounced dead after being revived seven times.
Toxicology testing determines Mary died from colchicine poisoning.
Sharon contacts the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and learns there is no open investigation into Mary’s death. Authorities then open a case.
Two anonymous letters are postmarked alleging that Adam Yoder poisoned his mother with colchicine and hid the bottle in his Jeep.
The anonymous letters are received by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and the medical examiner’s office.
Investigators interview Adam Yoder.
Detectives search his 1991 Jeep Wrangler and find a small glass bottle of colchicine under the front passenger seat, along with a receipt tied to an email account in his name.
Investigators interview Kaitlyn Conley, the office manager at the Yoders’ chiropractic practice and Adam’s ex-girlfriend.
